在我24岁的时候，我深感不安，我的人生已经停滞了太久，我原地踏步，我毫无进步，我不进则退，我正落入深渊。我想要改变，我决定从读完第一本全英文小说开始，在我第二十四个生日的这天（2021.03.30），我开始读《The Godfather》，这是教父三部曲的第一部，也是我人生中第一本看完的英文小说。由于这本书太好看了，太合我的胃口，我只用了两个月不到就完全看完，还很想把它分享出去，我在2021.05.14我把这本书送给了时姐，并且她给我拍下了一张非常帅气的照片(Fig.1)。
虽然这本书非常非常好看，但看书毕竟不像看电视剧那样上瘾，并没有立马读下一本的冲动。在读完莎翁的《哈姆雷特》和一本记不清名字的非小说读物之后，我开始看《The Sicilian》，虽说是三部曲，但这第二部和第一部基本上毫无联系，而且第二部也没有那么精彩，所以我没什么印象。这普普通通的阅读体验极大延迟了我去读第三本的时间，幸运的是，不经意间（2021.07.17）还是留下了一张和《The Sicilian》的照片（Fig.2）。
重新回到教父三部曲是在2022.08.27，这一天我成为了次密接被抓进了隔离酒店，我带了《The Last Don》同行，但主要是为了摆拍(Fig.3)，在我印象里应该是一页都没有读。被放回学校后陆续看了50-60页，不是很精彩，然后当全面放开中毒之后，彻底摆烂，搁置了。
正式开始读是在我回家（2022.01.13）的动车上，直至今日（2023.05.26）完全读完，从头算起，已经两年有余。就像所有的小说一样，《The Last Don》前面100页都是在铺垫，并不是那么精彩，但100页以后故事正式展开，反转反转再反转，跌宕起伏，让我十分上瘾，这是我看过最精彩的小说。除此之外，这本小说还十分契合我的价值观，我的幻想，我的梦想。所以我决定把所有我拍过照片的片段专门摘录出来，再结合我自己的经历和体会锐评，最后整合一番，作为本人价值观的一份摘要。当然，正文开始之前，先放上我看书三部曲的第三张照片：这张照片（Fig.4）摄于瑞吉酒店（2023.05.20），这张照片背后还有一个精彩的故事，请容我卖个关子，再之后的某一篇文章里给大伙娓娓道来。
Croccifixio
男主，小名Cross，一个二代高富帅，但又沾有一代的血迹；主业运营度假酒店复合体（顶级奢侈酒店（Hotel&Villas）+运动场（Golf&Tennis）+赌场+夜店），副业杀人，超级完整。在这里不做引用，请各位读者自行想象。
Athena
女主
Athena thought that she had been born as one of the luckiest people on earth. Everything came to her naturally. She had a wonderful father and mother, who recognized her gifts and nurtured them.
Athena的基础设定：天选女，非常之美，爹妈层次高；
Athena Aquitane had earned her way to stardom in the traditonal way that the public seldom appreciats. She spent long years in training: acting classes, dance and movement classes, voice lessons, extensive reading in dramatic literature, all necessary to the art of acting.
我近年来学了很多东西，最深刻的体会就是热爱和练习的力量，热爱是可以用生存来平替的，但练习不行。蔡徐坤的练习时长两年半是个热梗，但正是因为他有练习两年半，所以他能吊打偶像练习生同期的学员。好看的妹妹普遍有一个问题，就是她们不知道练习的力量，她们总是认为天赋是最重要的，干不好一件事情是因为自己天赋不行。这纯粹是在放春秋大洋屁，她们判断一个人有没有天赋完全取决于这个人有没有做出成绩，有点成绩就是有天赋，没有成绩就是没天赋，因果倒置。为什么这群人会成这个p样，我想了想，还是因为好看让生活变得太容易了，也不用努力，反正总会有一条轻松且高回报的路放在眼前，好看就是她们最大的天赋，并且这个天赋经得起考验，至少从青春期开始的二十年内未尝一败。好看，不用练习。
没办法，有的人就是老天爷赏饭吃。没饭吃的人，请练习，通过练习，你也能有饭吃。害，别看我一天搁这diss漂亮妹妹，我diss她们只是因为她们不给我睡罢了，我羡慕死她们了：一生下来就带着财富，往床上一躺啥也不用做就有钱（时薪1500）；我打网球练习了一年才实现时薪200，还他妈的要在超级大太阳下陪练，都成黑笔了555.
Acting and music were Athena's true loves, and to be able to concentrate on these things she used her energy to make herself expert in everything else. She learned to fix a car, becare a superb cook, excelled at sports. She studied lovemaking in the literature and in life, knowing how important it was in her chosen profession.
这不就是我吗？表演和音乐我的最爱；还喜欢搞些花里胡哨，everything I do I do it A1；我也对做爱很有研究啊。真的希望妹妹们能好好跟Athena学学，别他妈的仗着自己好看，像个呆逼。
C&A, A man's dream
But he knew. He yearned for the beauty of Athena Aquitane. It wasn't just for the loveliness of her face, her eyes, her hair, her legs, her breasts. He yearned to see the look of intelligence and warmth in her eyes, in the very bones of her face, in the delicate curve of her lips. He felt that if he could know her, be in her presence, the whole world would take on a different light, the sun a different heat. He saw the ocean behind her, rolling green and capped with white fume, like a halo around her head. And the thought strayed into his mind: Athena was the woman his mother had dreamed of becoming.
Astonished, he felt a well of longing to see her, to be with her, to listen to her voice, to watch her move. And then he thought, Oh shit, is this why I'm doing this?
当Cross意识到自己对Athena念念不忘，全文背诵好吧，下次妹妹问你喜欢她什么，你就回“我不仅仅喜欢你的脸蛋、你的眼睛、你的头发，你的腿，你的胸...”
Cross looked at her grimly. "Boz told me the terrible secret you had between you. He claims you confessed that when you ran away, you buried your baby in the desert."
Athena's face became a mask, her green eyes went dull. For the first time that night, Cross felt she could not possibly be acting. Her face had a pallor no actress could achieve. She whispered to him,
"Do you really believe I murdered my baby?"
"Boz said that's what you told him," Cross said.
"I did tell him that? Athena said. "Now, I'm asking you again. Do you believe I murdered my baby?"
There is nothing so terrible as to condemn a beautiful woman. Cross knew that if he answered truthfully, he would lose her forever. Suddenly he put his arms around her very gently. "You're too beautiful. Nobody as beautiful as you could do that." The eternal worship of men for beauty against all evidence. "No," he said. "I don't believe you did."
She stepped away from him. "Even though I'm responsible for
Boz?"
"You're not responsible," Cross said. "He killed himself."
Athena was gazing at him intently. He took her hands. "Do you believe I killed Boz?" he asked.
And then Athena smiled, an actress who finally realized how to play a scene. "No more than you believe I killed my baby."
They smiled, they had declared each other innocent. She took his hand and said, "Now, I'm cooking dinner for you and then we're going to bed." She led him into the kitchen.
此时在他俩的认知中，Cross认为Athena杀了自己的女儿，Athena认为Cross杀了Boz，基于此他俩的这波对话，我愿称之为顶级棋逢对手！
He had loved the Xanadu, he had loved his father, Gronevelt, and Claudia. And yet he had in some sense betrayed them. Gronevelt, by failing to be faithful to the Xanadu; his father, by not being true to the Clericuzio; and Claudia, because she believed in his innocence. Now he was free of them. He would begin a new life.
What could he make of his love for Athena? He had been warned of the dangers of romantic love by Gronevelt, by his father, and even by the old Don. That was the fatal flaw of great men who would control their worlds. Then why was he now ignoring their advice? Why was he placing his fate at the mercy of a woman?
Quite simply, the sight of her, the sound of her voice, the way she moved, her happiness and her sorrow, all made him happy. The world became dazzlingly pleasurable when he was with her.became delicious, the sun's heat warmed his bones, and he felt that sweet hunger for her flesh that made life holy. And when he slept with her he never feared those nightmares that preceded the dawn.
It was now three weeks since he had last seen Athena, but he had heard her voice just this morning. He had called her in France to tell her he was coming, and he had caught the happiness in her voice be cause now she knew he was still alive. It was possible she loved him. And now, in less than twenty hours he would see her.
Cross had faith that someday she would truly love him, that she would reward him for his love, that she would never judge him, and that like some angel she would save him from Hell.
噫，因为你背叛了全世界，也太浪漫了吧，好多情话，学到了学到了。
He saw Athena waiting for him on that plaza, and he marveled at her genius in transforming her appearance. She could not completely hide her beauty, but she could disguise it. Gold-framed tinted glasses turned her eyes from brilliant green to gray. The clothes she was wearing made her look thicker and heavier. Her blond hair was tucked under a country-brimmed hat of blue denim that overlapped the side of her face. He felt a thrill of possession that he was the only one who knew how beautiful she really was.
作者是懂男人的，这就是一个男人的顶级享受，占有欲，与众不同，眼前这个女人就只对我才这样，special！懂不懂啊！
"I have money," Athena said. "You have to understand. I'm going to stay here for five years and then I'm going to bring her home. I don't care what they say, I will never put her back in an institution, I'll take care of her for the rest of her life. And if anything happens to her, my life will be with children like her. So you see we can never have a life together."
Cross understood her perfectly. He took a long time to consider his answer.
His voice was strong and determined when he said, "Athena, the only thing I'm sure about now is that I love you and Bethany. You have to believe that. It's not going to be easy, I know that, but we'll try our best. You want to help Bethany, not be a martyr. For that we have to take a final jump. I'll do everything I can to help you. Look, we'll be like gamblers in my casino. The odds are stacked against us, but there's always that chance to beat the odds."
Cross saw her weakening so he pressed on. "Let's get married," he said. "Let's have other children and live our lives like normal people. With our children let's try to make right what seems wrong with our world. All families have some misfortune. I know we can overcome it. Will you believe me?"
Finally Athena looked at him directly. "Only if you believe I truly love you," she said.
In the bedroom when they made love, they took each other on faith; Athena believed that Cross would truly help her save Bethany, and Cross, that Athena truly loved him. When finally she turned her body toward him, she murmured, "I love you. I really do."
Cross bowed his head to kiss her. She said it again, "I truly love you," and Cross thought, What man on earth could disbelieve her?
What man on earth could not pursue it?
Boz's hatred
And Boz wondered at himself. Why had his own love turned o hate? It was simple really. Because he knew he could not possess her to the end of their lives; that one day he must lose her. That one day she would lie down with other men, that one day she would disap pear from his Heaven. And never think of him again.
Boz是Athena的前夫，由于Athena太完美，他自觉配不上Athena，哪怕他已经是Athena的丈夫，他们还育有一女。我完全能够理解这种感受，就像我觉得笨笨不错，我配不上她，哪怕她是我的女朋友。不过处境相同，不同的对策把人区分了开来，在我眼中：
- 最垃圾的是啥也不干，开始摆，静待噩梦成真的那天；
- 中间的是Boz这种，得不到的就毁掉；
- 最noble的就是方某人这种，提升自己，积极进取，做大做强，再创辉煌
The Death of Jim Losey
Losey still could not believe that anyone would dare to murder a police officer in cold blood. Sure, drug dealers would exchange bullets, and sure, some crazy nigger would blow you away because you showed a badge, as would fleeing bank robbers, but no mob guy would have the balls to execute a police officer. It would be too much heat.
本书最后的对决是Dante和Cross之间的你死我活，他们各有一个帮手，Dante&Losey VS. Cross&Lia，2V2。CL组合邀请DL组合来Vegas玩，想在Vegas把DL同时干掉，DL欣然赴约，因为他们也想在Vegas把CL干掉。前期铺垫非常的足，两边都在plan&rehearsal，让我以为会非常精彩。
结果最后仅仅就是Lia先在Losey的房间里把Losey杀了，然后Dante少个队友，计划铺展不开，被Cross杀了。很无语，因为我看到这里才发现DL这边并没有什么所谓的计划，他们的依仗竟然是Losey的警察身份，换句话说，Losey竟然会认为因为自己是警察所以没有人敢杀他，真是太幼稚了。
就像涂涂和雪豹总是爱提自己是学历，我深感无语，我一次又一次告诉他们，你这破学历没用，毫无用处，对这个社会毫无价值，也许你本人会因为来自交大被许多人高看一眼，但这并不能给别人带去什么好处，你要实打实的给别人带去利益，才能打动人心。涂涂不为所动依然活在他的幻想里；雪豹朽木可雕，承认了自己除了学历没有价值了。
亏得之前这么大篇幅描述Losey，我还以为是个像祁同伟一样的人物，结果是个傻杯，就这，还幻想screw Athena，你配吗？Communion就是为你这种死了有heat的傻杯量身定做的。我才发现他的名字是失败的，作者太会隐喻了。
Lia, Qualified Man
A thin pillar of fire rose triumphantly over the neon lights of the Vegas Strip. It mushroomed into a great pillow of plum and rosy clouds against the sandy mountains.
"Oh my God," Claudia said, holding Cross tightly by the arm.
"It's one of your Villas."
Cross was silent. He watched the green flag over the Villa being consumed by smoke and fire, heard the fire engines screaming down the Strip. Twelve million dollars going up in flames to hide the blood he'd shed. Lia Vazzi was a Qualified Man who spared no expense, courted no risks.
反观Lia，作者从他一出场就给了他这个称号Qualified Man，这跟我一直提到的真正的男人是同一个概念。而什么是Qualified Man，作者在小说的尾声给出了解释。
CL组合和DL组合的对决，必须是一场Communion（找不到尸体，与之对应的是Confirmation：尸体要被发现），因为C和D都有Clericuzio的血脉，属于是第三代之争。Lia为了实现这个目标，在击杀Dante和Losey后，他把他俩的尸体装袋运输到船上丢入海底，而对案发现场则进行了烧毁处理。你必须要知道案发现场是Losey入住的Villa，这个Villa在Xanadu Hotel只有7间，在平时都是用来接待Senator这种级别的人物的，非常之奢华，而为了实现Communion，Lia直接一把火就给它烧了个干干净净，不留痕迹。这就是Qualified Man，不计代价，承担风险，把事做成！
To tell the TRUTH
The Don nodded. He said, "Croccifixio, your father was more than my nephew, of Clericuzio blood, as you are. Your father was my trusted friend. And so I will listen to your reasons."
Cross prepared himself. "Dante killed my father. I judged him guilty as you judged me guilty. And he killed my father out of revenge and ambition. He was a Santadio in his heart."
The Don did not respond. Cross went on. "How could I not avenge my father? How could I forget my father was responsible for my life? And I had too much respect for the Clericuzio, as my father had, to suspect your hand in the killing. Yet, I think you must have known Dante was guilty and did nothing. So how could I come to you to redress the wrong?"
"Your proof," Giorgio said.
"A man like Pippi De Lena could never be surprised," Cross said, "And Jim Losey at the other end is too much of a coincidence. There is not a man in this room who believes in coincidence. All of you know Dante was guilty. And Don, you yourself told me the story of the Santadio. Who knows what Dante planned after he killed me, as he surely knew he must. Next, his uncles." Cross did not dare to mention the Don. "He counted on your affection," he said to the Don.
The Don had laid his cigar aside. He face was inscrutable but held a touch of sadness.
对于CL来说，干掉DL是难点，但更大的难点在于如何向Don解释，After all，Dante是他的nephew，而Cross的解释堪称教科书级别的答案（虽然但是，真正set him free的并不是他这套话术，而是Don本来就没想让他死，大家不要把因果搞错了整天在这里研究聊天，研究话术，没啥用。）
- 陈述事实：Dante杀了我爹（Pippi），我作为他的儿子怎么能不给他报仇；
- 表达尊敬：我很尊敬Clericuzio，但Dante是个Santadio（Clericuzio的世仇）；
- 引火烧身：如果我不杀他，那他就会杀了我，下一步他会杀掉他的叔叔们，也就是在场的各位，为他的父亲报仇（当年Pippi带队和他的叔叔们共同作案在婚礼当天血洗了Santadio家族，并且杀死了Dante的父亲，经典血色婚礼，我发现西方的小说很喜欢搞这一套）。
American Dream
Cross poured more brandy into Lia's glass and lit his cigar. He did not tell him about David Redfellow. "How do you like your room?" he said jokingly.
Lia puffed on his cigar. "What nonsense. So beautiful. To what purpose? Why does anyone have to live like that? It is too much. It takes away your strength. It arouses envy. It's not clever to insult the poor like that. Why then would they not want to kill you? My father was a rich man in Sicily but never did he live in luxury."
"You don't understand America, Lia," Cross said. "Every poor man who sees the inside of that Villa rejoices. Because he knows in his heart someday he will live in just such a place."
懂不懂美国梦的魅力啊！Not today, someday, just you wait!
No reasonable with stupid people
"It is dangerous to be reasonable with stupid people." Don Clericuzio said, as he sipped from his wine glass.
Don Clericuzio用儿子的死和女儿的快乐换来了这句话，而我用没有性生活验证了这句话。
When you ask for something
Cross opened his briefcase and took out a packet of hundreds. "There's ten grand," he said. "That's just for letting me talk. But it will take a little time. How about a beer and a place to sit?"
Sharkey's face broke into a grin. It was curiously affable, the good cop in the partnership, Cross thought.
Sharkey shoved the money casually into his trouser pocket. "I like you," Sharkey said. "You're smart. You know it's money that talks, not bullshit."
这套操作我早就会了，特别是在我加了一个不熟的人问问题的时候，我都是直接发一个红包过去，然后开始问。这套操作我是跟潘靖予学的，他有次来问我一个事情，先给我转了88，然后开始问。作为一个知耻后勇的人，我立马就学会了。

Sweet air
No patient of Kenneth Kaldone's would be forced to put his teeth in a water glass at night. No patient would ever feel pain in his elaborately outfitted dental chair. He was generous in his use of drugs and especially in the use of "sweet air," the combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen inhaled by patients though a rubber mask, which remarkably killed any pain to the nerves and transported his patient into a semiconsciousness as nearly pleasurable as opium.
Kenneth Kaldone's 是一家牙医诊所，我第一次知道可以带一个笑气面具无感拔牙是21年的时候听笨笨说的，然而这本书写于1996年，相当于老美在拔牙这一块领先我们至少20年。
在建筑行业也是这样，skyscraper，我第一次见是14年，然而the empire state building建成于1931年。
我是真没见识啊！
Elitist
I'm an elitist. I wanted to be an artist to be something special. So what I hate is that movies are such a democratic art. Anybody can make a movie.
我身在社会主义国家，学习资本主义国家的科技，被封建主义统治着，但这些都不是我喜欢的；他们看似不一样，但我又总感觉他们都一样，直到我了解到古希腊人的竞争文化后，我悟了，这个世界只有一种主义，那就是精英主义，主义以换皮为本。

这也是我的一个观点，动物比小孩子强。武志红有本书《巨婴国》，里面一个观点就是中国人的心理发育水平依然停留在婴儿阶段，中国人并没有学会人要为自己的行为负责，他们总是期待有一个人来为他们负责，来照顾他们，进而他们可以放弃身而为人的权力。中国女人尤甚，身处这样一个糟糕的基本盘里，我很难找到我满意的伴侣！我真的建议有女儿的家庭背上负债都应该把女儿送出国去接受教育，比你他妈的负债买一堆混凝土管用！
Law
"Like Skippy Deere?" Cross said, laughing. "I invested in six of his pictures, four of them were hits and still I haven't made money."
"Because you didn't have me representing you," Molly said.
Cross一直想进军影视行业，但总是被影视行业水太深，他虽然成功投资了大热的四部片子，但啥都没捞到。究其原因，它被合同玩得团团转，所以Molly才会说，因为你没有找我来当你的律师，为你起草合同。
律师很关键，法律很关键，我必须要有一个律师，他可以帮助我使得国家机器的力量为我所用，而不是被国家机器任意摆布！师出有名的魅力，懂不懂啊。
Long, continuing friendship, one that would never end
Every mark of respect counted, mounted up, and one breach, no matter how tiny, could be remembered someday.
这一段是Xanadu Hotel（度假酒店+赌场+球场场+夜店复合体）的创始人Gronevelt的处事之道，表达尊敬，很重要！Show Respect！这本书Gronevelt浓墨重彩的一笔就在于描写他如何投资一个senator并培育和他的友谊。
Gronevel, too, had his reward. After Walter Wavven was clockes senator, he took a weekend retreat at the Xanadu. Gronevelt gave him a Villa and went to congratulate him on his victory.
Senator Wavven was back in his old form. He was gambling and winning, he had little dinners with the showgirls of the Xanadu. He seemed completely recovered. He made only one reference to his earlier crisis. He said to Gronevelt, "Alfred, you have a blank check with me."
Gronevelt said, smiling, "No man can afford to carry blank checks in his wallet, but thank you."
He didn't want checks that paid off all the senator's debt. He wanted a long, continuing friendship, one that would never end.
你看Gronevelt的这个回答非常之舒服，非常让Senator Wavven感觉到Respect，好好学，常看常新。这个One reference to his earlier crisis是Wavven本来年轻有为，当选Senator板上钉钉，但是他的女儿被Theo因爱生恨杀掉以后，他因为自己的政治地位无法为女儿报仇而郁郁寡欢，一蹶不振。他通过自暴自弃向Gronevelt传达出要Gronevelt向Clericuzio递话去把Theo杀掉的意图，被Gronevelt精准识别并办妥，再加上Gronevelt长期让他在Xanadu住Villa，他们终于成为了长期好朋友！
Plan right
When they drove past the restaurant there were no signs of police activity. Obviously Theo was still undiscovered. Pippi turned the car radio on and listened to the news broadcasts. There was nothing."Perfect," Pippi said. "When you plan right, it always goes perfect."
这段是Pippi在带着Cross出任务（杀掉Theo），成功完成后的获奖感言。计划很重要，特别是要成事，计划必不可少。正所谓凡事预则立，不预则废。还有就是心想事成，你首先要去想，你想都不想，你怎么plan？
Gamble rule
Cross had often warned her to gamble only for small stakes. Also to never increase her bets when she was losing. And to spend no more than two or three hours gambling every day, because the length of time spent gambling was the greatest trap.
开赌场的人教给你的赌博准则：
- 小赌怡情，大赌伤身；
- 不要想着用加倍下注法翻身；
- 每天赌博的时间不要超过三小时。
Looks are power
"All the good in the world," the surgeon said. "And when I get through with you, you'll be too good for my son. You are a sweet and intelligent girl, but looks are power. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life standing around while men flock to good-looking women who have not one tenth of your intelligence? And you have to sit around like a dummy because your nose is too thick and you have a chin like a Mafia hood." As he said this he patted her check and said gently, "It won't take much doing. You have beauiful eyes and a beautiful mouth. And your figure is good enough for a movie star."
Claudia一开始并不是一个美女，她继承了她爹的mafia look，这段话是她的某一任男朋友的父亲（一个整容医生）唆使她整容时给出的晓之以理。这也是我想对那些并不是天生丽质的妹妹说的话，在我的观察中，不好看的妹妹由于不好看，生命中没有那么多的优待，所以她们需要一些别的thing为这个社会提供价值，她们往往更有意思。但是没办法，颜值是一般等价物，所有男人都吃这个价值，这是规律，没法改变。虽然你没有生来就好看，但你可以通过手术让自己变成一个美女，此时Look+Mind双管齐下，那些只有Look的天生美女根本和你没法比，因为你come from underground！这就是为什么天生的美女很讨厌整容，因为整容技术严重损害了她们的利益。
Actions defined a man
Don Clericuzio was also revered for the strict moral code he enforced in his Family. Every man, woman, and child was completely responsible for his actions, no matter the stress, the remorse, or the hard circumstances. Actions defined a man; words were a fart in the wind.
男人对自己一定要非常的严格，我们可以不遵守这个社会定下的傻逼规则，但我们必须要遵守自己定下的规则！我们必须要为自己的行为负责，无论压力有多大，周围环境多么恶劣。正所谓严于律己，我们必须对自己非常严格！
